JOLLY GOOD COMPANY
This print is an unlimited digital collage edition on paper, with a printed signature, title 'Here we are again' and date May 202. The source material for this image was the 1931 song by Huntley Trevor, “Jolly good Company” with its refrain “Here we are again, happy as can be, all good pals and…company”. I am sure that some will ask why I didn’t include an image of so and so, who was responsible for a larger number of deaths than some of those selected. Indeed, I could have made a print containing perhaps thousands of portraits of leaders who were responsible for genocide – but it seems to me that genocide doesn’t need to be quantified, how does one differentiate between X million and Y million dead human beings. Consequently, I adopted two simple criteria for this print in that I wanted to use my usual A-Z arrangement of names combined with images of those protagonists who had had their portraits painted. As I intend to donate any profits from this edition to a charity to support Ukrainian Refugees it seems appropriate to use the colours of their country’s flag in its basic formal device.
