Seven Sins Portfolio Published by Coriander Studio in 2008.
The Seven Sins, like the eternal verities is one of those collective subjects that can provide a kind of coat hanger for ideas about colour, form and text. Each sin seemed to suggest to me a colour palette, and an abstract form, such as the slow wriggling shapes of Sloth, or the upright strident structure of Pride. The text is a compilation of words that are associated with the sin i.e. Jealous, resentful, green are all words that reflect Envy. (I have dropped the word deadly in the title, as some sins have become so common that any form of censure they may have once possessed has now lost its significance i.e. the sin of Gluttony seems irrelevant within a society rapidly becoming obese). Mel Gooding provided seven prose poems and a brief introduction to accompany the seven images in the portfolio collection. The prints are printed in an edition of 50 copies on 330 gsm Somerset enhanced Satin paper; the images are screen-printed with an additional UV glaze. Each print is signed and numbered by the artist. Numbers 1 to 25 includes seven poems and an introduction by Mel Gooding are presented in a buckram, archive quality portfolio, which signed additionally on the colophon by Mel Gooding. Numbers 26 to 50 are availablle as single prints.
