Vitruvian Mannequin (The body clothed in Art) Canvas Version Published by Faine Contemporary Art 2012
Leonardo ‘borrowed’ the Vetruvian Man from the first century Roman architect Marcus Vitruvius; when asked to produce a work for the Chelsea Arts clubs’ fashion project called The Body Clothed in Art, I ‘borrowed’ the Vetruvian Man from Leonardo. I thought it would be interesting to reverse the brief and clothe the art in an A to Z of famous Fashion designers. The names of Armani, Boss, Chanel, Dior etc are spelt out in a modern version of the illuminarti text. The main text, which is printed in six colours over the facsimile of the Vitruvian Man drawing becomes bleached out when, like Harlequin’s clothes, it covers the actual figure. Vitruvian Mannequin is a signed digital print on canvas finished with a silk-screen printed satin protection varnish, and painted spot colours Canvass donated to Chelsea Arts Club Charity |
