IT'S ALL GREEK Published by Faine Contemporary Art 2020 Mono-print in 5 colour ways
I have been interested in the Greek myths since early childhood. With a dubious knowledge absorbed from the movies produced by Cinecentre e.g. Epics like the Trojan Wars, The journeys of Ulyses and his conflict with Cyclops or Perseus and the Gorgon Medusia, I was oblivious to facts. My wife bought me Stephen Fry's book Heroes, which awoke a realisation of just how little I knew about the subject, hense the title of my print. What I lacked in information, I substituted with a familiarity of classical paintings. Fry's book provided the imputus to produce a work based on the heros and expressed as a series of different sized bubbles, reflecting on the relative importantance of the figures in the paintings to their position within the panetheon of gods, immortals and mortals. The text comprises two alphabets of contrapuntal spirals of the famous names, e.g From Athena to Zeus. |
