Pennies from Heaven Published by Coriander Studio 2005
'Pennies from Heaven' refers to the money raised, predominantly in the Middle East by Brendan Neiland the then 'Keeper of the Royal Academy Schools', for the benefit of his students. This print expresses my response to the way my friend was treated by the RA’s administration and some members after he had been removed from the position of 'Keeper of the Royal Academy', and subsequently expelled from the Academy in 2005 (the first person in 200 years to suffer this indignity). The phrase kangaroo court sprang to mind as I read the summation of the Academy’s appointed judge. Indeed the whole sorry business seemed closer to the Theatre of Cruelty than the Royal Academy I had hither to known. Pennies from Heaven is a signed limited edition comprising 50 digital prints each finished with a silk-screen printed satin protection varnish, and an Ultra Violet glaze bearing the legend FRAME UP, FIT UP, STITCH UP. Pennies from Heaven is a first generation original print, which only exists in this form. |
