...and what do you do? Published by Coriander Studio 2007
'And what do you do?' Is the ubiquitous question that crops up at any social gathering when conversation starts to lapse. The response will be interpreted in terms of the recipient's attitude and prejudices. If the reply is 'i am an architect,' then the tone with which the statement is delivered and the previous experiences of the listener may result in the speaker being perceived as sophisticated or merely arrogant. Similarly if a person claims to be a zoologist then the adjective 'zealous' may spring to mind. Peter Blake first introduced me to the idea of using the Alphabet as source material. This was the second print I made that integrated an abstract image with an A to Z of alliterative text. The use of text has become a major element in my subsequent work. 'And what do you do?' is a first generation digital print with a silkscreen glaze containing the legend Busy, Busy, Busy. |
